In conjunction with Intelligent Imaging Innovations (3i), Infinity
Photo-Optical has developed a special motorized and computer-controlled device (called MID) that for the first time allows correct 3-D imaging without the
spurious data falsification caused by spherical aberration. The MID is
combined with 3i's exclusive SlideBook™ software for biological
fluorescence microscopical imaging that was heretofore impossible. The combined system is marketed by 3i as S.A.C.
The MID fits to the side or top video/photo ports of most microscopes, interfacing the camera and microscope. Activation of the MID permits successive strata
to be refocused at various counter-settings to the induced spherical aberration that would otherwise be introduced by focusing at different Z-depths.
Images can now be captured that are almost completely spherical aberration-free—
and deconvolution-processed by 3i's software.
Accordingly, Infinity Photo-Optical has appointed 3i its worldwide distributor for the MID in the fields of 3-D and confocal biological
fluorescence microscopy. In turn, 3i's SlideBook software has empowered
the MID to reach its practical limits in such applications.
