Choosing the Proper Infinity Instrument:
Camera/Sensor Formats
It may come as a surprise, but "all Infinity instruments are equal." By
that, we mean that all Infinity instruments can provide the same image quality–only
from different working distances and for different camera/sensor formats. For example,
if the InfiniVar™ CFM-2/S
is used at a working distance of c.30mm, it will provide 3.2x primary magnification.
Model K2/S can attain 3.2x primary
magnification at nearly 160mm—more than 5 times the
InfiniVar's working distance. On the other hand, if extreme working distances
are not required and you want a small, table-top instrument,
InfiniVar CFM-2/S is a better choice.
The format (camera/sensor) size is also important to consider. For example, an InfiniProbe
can be used at similar working distances to that of the InfiniVar CFM-2/S. However, if you
need to image onto a 35mm or digital camera and very large-sensored video cameras,
InfiniVar CFM-2/S would be the
obvious choice. The important thing to remember is this: over the years, we have
had much experience designing instruments for many diverse applications; many proved
so useful that they were put into general production. If in doubt as to the proper
Infinity instrument to choose, call us.
